Eight Books to Help Fulfill Your New Year’s ResolutionsThere’s a lot of talk about whether we should even bother making New Year’s resolutions.  There are so few of us who actually keep them for longer than a week or two.  Why bother? Have no fear – we have some ideas that can help.

If you want to have a fighting shot at fulfilling your resolutions you need to:

  1. Tell somebody.  Saying or writing your resolutions means you’ve committed, and if you quit you have some awkward explaining to do.  Check out the resolutions each of us with the InDependent team made this year. Feel free to write your resolutions in the comments so we can all help each other fulfill them.
  2. Find support.  You know what you want to do, but how? Military spouses are often temporarily single parents with limited budgets.  We have the extra challenge of figuring out what to do with the kids while we get in those marathon training runs or how we’re going to afford that pricey yoga teacher training program.
  3. Kindle the flame.  So you’ve decided what you want to do, and maybe you’ve even found support so you can do it, but how do you stay excited so you follow through?  Finding friends to be accountability partners, signing up for an event, or blogging/Facebooking about your progress can all help to keep the excitement alive.  I also keep resolutions at the front of my mind with motivational boards on Pinterest, magazines, and books.

After reviewing the InDependent team’s list of resolutions, I looked through my Amazon wish list and found books that will help keep us thinking about our resolutions. Take a look and see if any of them fit in with what you’ve resolved for the year.
