WELLNESS EDUCATION CHAIR

POSITION SUMMARY: In this role, you will play a crucial role within InDependent. You will lead the development and creation of content that is educational, relatable, and practical for supporting and encouraging military spouse wellness. Through your leadership, you will empower military spouses by providing them with valuable resources and insights to enhance their overall well-being and that of the military community. This position will work closely with the Storytelling & Marketing Committee, Data & Research Committee, and New Initiatives Committee. They will lead the Wellness Education Committee.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Conduct data analysis and research to identify the specific needs and challenges faced by military spouses in various areas of wellness.

  • Lead a team of correspondents, contributors, and subject matter experts, providing guidance, support, and feedback to ensure the creation of high-quality educational content.

  • Develop and execute a creative content strategy that encompasses webinars, interviews, ebooks, articles, etc. covering diverse wellness topics relevant to military spouses, leveraging digital and creative assets.

  • Develop and maintain an editorial calendar based on the organization’s strategy.

  • Oversee the development of educational articles that cover a wide range of wellness topics and working alongside partners & wellness professionals, offering relatable and actionable advice for military spouses or in support of military spouses.

  • Ensure that all content is accurate, well-researched, and aligns with the organization’s mission and values.

  • Collaborate with the marketing & IT teams to promote and distribute content through the organization’s website, social media platforms, newsletters, and other channels.

  • Continuously monitor and evaluate the impact and effectiveness of educational content, making improvements and adjustments as needed.

  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive environment, encouraging input and ideas from team members, military spouses, and other stakeholders.

Board Member Responsibilities

  • Provide inspired leadership for InDependent.

    • Represent InDependent with the highest standard of integrity and transparency

    • Model commitment to our mission, vision, and core values to those within and without our organization.

    • Maintain a balance between all Branches of Wellness, both internally within InDependent and in our programming/external communications.

    • Maintain confidentiality to include, but not limited to, InDependent’s Board meetings, Standards of Operation, policies, and financial records to persons inside and outside of the organization unless deemed appropriate by the executive team to release information.

    • Promote a spirit of teamwork through modeling the way of accountability, effective communication, integrity and creative problem solving.

    • Participate in philanthropic networks. Stay abreast and monitor trends in the nonprofit and foundation world. Identify and undertake professional development and training.

  • Identify and recruit individuals, businesses, and community based organizations that may sponsor or donate funds for the benefit of InDependent, in line with strategic priorities and funding plan.

  • Follow the bylaws, conflict of interest and any other policies or publications founded by the InDependent, Inc. and take seriously the legal, fiscal, and ethical responsibilities the Board carries

  • Prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in board meetings and events.

  • Submit monthly report of committee activities, and annual committee AAR, budget and strategic plan that are in line with InDependent’s overall strategic plan and program initiatives.

  • Participate in recruiting of staff/volunteer/board members, specifically taking the lead on planning for their own succession and offering up recommendations to the board. Onboard new Wellness Education Chair.

Volunteer and Committee Management

  • Responsible for recruiting, training, and establishing committee members, to include user roles and responsibilities, access to necessary Google Drives, Slack channels, and other committee software and programs

  • Delegate committee tasks to volunteers as needed, working with the Operations committee to establish position descriptions, necessary SOPs, and rewards & recognition

TIME REQUIRED: 15-20 hours per month on average, more time may be required for budget preparation, proposal deadlines, and year-end | Term of Service: 2 years

QUALIFICATIONS & SPECIAL SKILLS:

  • Transparent and high integrity leadership.

  • Strong personal interest in military spouse health & wellness.

  • Committed to accuracy, transparency and timeliness.

  • Enjoys sharing knowledge, remaining up-to-date with current events, and being creative with how knowledge is presented.

  • Working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn web content management systems, applications, and tools used by the organization.

  • Digitally native, able to easily learn new technology.

  • Strong interpersonal skills including relationship and trust building, communication and listening, and personal engagement.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in content creation, educational writing, SEO or related fields is preferred but not required.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information in a clear, relatable, and inspiring manner.

  • A willingness to research and learn about the unique challenges and opportunities faced by military spouses.

  • Familiarity with content management systems, SEO principles, and digital marketing strategies is a plus.
