One personal habit that contributes to my succes is saying no to things that don’t make me happy, move me forward, or serve me in some way.

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY AS A MILITARY SPOUSE?

I met my sailor at wedding. Our courtship was very short and in less than six months we were married and pregnant with twins. I came into my marriage with a lot of baggage and within three years hit an all time low with my mental health. Some cyber bullying from fellow military spouses tipped the scale and I attempted to take my life. An intervention from my spouse and finding a great therapist helped me start to heal. Soon I met some amazing military spouse friends and learned it’s ok to just be me.

If you are  a health or wellness expert,  tell us about it and how it has impacted your wellness journey.

I started out as a fitness coach. After seeing my clients struggle over and over to reach their fitness goals I realized their struggle wasn’t because of lack of motivation, accountability or tools but something deeper. I had to take a deep look into what wellness really was and discovered that it’s not just physical but mental and emotional too. This is what inspired me to become a life coach.

What is a low moment when your health suffered the most and how did you overcome it?

When I was only taking care of my physical health but completely ignored my mental and emotional health I hit my lowest point ever. I started focusing on a whole person approach. That has included therapy, boundaries, and tuning into me. Right now I am at my healthiest. I still have some room for improvement. My goal is to continue to work on me and sharing that information with others.

What is your favorite form of self care?

My favorite form of self care is sleep. My favorite way to decompress during the summer months is drinking wine with friends.

WHAT IS A HEALTH AND WELLNESS RESOURCE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH THE COMMUNITY?

A health and wellness resource I would reccomed is gaia.com. It’s an inexpensive way to access yoga videos online. They have a ton of levels of yoga as well as lengths of videos.

IF YOU COULD RECOMMEND ONE BOOK TO MILITARY SPOUSES, WHAT WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

The Model Health Show because Shawn breaks down health and wellness into understandable pieces. His book “Sleep Smarter” is the sleep bible.
