Before/Besides working with InDependent, I:
Before and currently, I work at SJV2, a company that holds the Saber contract for Whiteman, that does the construction projects on base. Health/Life
Favorite Duty Station:
They have all been special, because of the friendships made, but my favorite was Nellis. I had a lot of personal growth there, made some of my best friends, and had the most rewarding job experience there.
Favorite Place to Visit or Go on Vacation:
I love to see new places, anywhere that there is water is always terrific. But, being military, and being away from family, that is also a priority to me as well, so anytime I can combine seeing family and being near the water either the beach or the lake is a perfect vacation.
What Does Wellness Mean to Me:
Wellness to me means finding the sweet spot of well-being, being in tune with your mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual state.
How I Find Balance:
I find balance by taking personal wellness days. I choose a day where I spend it being one with myself. I get a massage, pedicure, or day of rest. I try to do this once a month. It helps me to re-center and re-focus, and gain clarity.
Favorite Pastime:
I love to curl up with a good book and get lost in an amazing story, I also enjoy being outdoors on a good hike or long bicycle ride.
Healthy Eating Tip:
Portion control and a colorful plate is the key to a healthy diet. I love salads full of colorful fresh fruits and veggies.
Favorite Healthy Snack:
I love all fruit, but nothing hits the spot on a hot day like a bowl full of ice-cold watermelon.
My Go-To Recipe:
I make a fantastic spicy teriyaki salmon and firecracker green beans.
Fitness Achievement Most Proud of:
I have completed one 5k or 10k per month for the last 5 years.
Favorite Way to Workout:
I love working out to the Les Mills program, they have a fantastic variety of workouts, from HITT, to strength training and yoga/pilates.
Favorite Workout Song:
When I am almost out of energy I put on the Rocky theme and get motivated and perk back up.
Biggest Fitness Hurdle:
Like many, I gained weight after my last pregnancy that I found hard to lose. I had to change my habits, exercise more, and find time in my day to do that.
What Brings Me Joy:
Spending time with family and friends, but also giving back to my community. Mentoring and educating young people is also a joy to me.
My Favorite Way to De-stress:
A glass of wine and reading a good book or watching a good show.
“The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t how hard you hit; it’s about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done.”
